Princess Diana at the Mic: The People’s Princess

Hello there, children. My name is Diana. I was born in 1961 in Norfolk, England. As a young girl, I loved animals, swimming, dancing, and spending time with children. I was often shy, but I cared deeply about other people and always tried to notice when someone needed a little kindness.

Before I became a princess, I worked with children in London, including as a nursery school assistant. I enjoyed making children smile and helping them feel special. I didn't know then that my life was about to change dramatically.

In 1981, I married Prince Charles, and suddenly people around the world knew my name. I became the Princess of Wales. Millions of people watched our wedding, and everywhere I went, photographers followed me.

Being a princess meant beautiful gowns, royal palaces, and important ceremonies, but I discovered that I wanted to use my position for something more. I wanted to help people who sometimes felt forgotten or unimportant.

I visited hospitals, homeless shelters, and charities. I sat beside sick children, listened to people struggling with difficult problems, and tried to make everyone I met feel important, especially those who were sick or poor.

I also worked to help remove dangerous landmines left behind after wars. In 1997, I walked through a cleared path in a minefield in Angola while wearing protective equipment. Photographs of that walk traveled around the world and helped bring attention to the terrible danger landmines posed to ordinary families and children.

But one of the most important parts of my life was being a mother to my two sons, William and Harry. I wanted them to experience life beyond palace walls. I took them to amusement parks and restaurants, but I also brought them with me to charities and shelters so they could understand how other people lived.

People sometimes called me "the People's Princess" because I tried to connect with people personally rather than simply standing at a distance. I believed that a hug, a conversation, or simply listening to someone could make a difference.

My life ended unexpectedly in 1997, when I was only 36 years old. People around the world mourned my death, but the causes I cared about continued.

Looking back, my story showed that you don't need a crown to make someone feel special. Kindness can be powerful. Sometimes changing the world begins with something as simple as sitting beside someone who feels alone or showing people that they matter.

Always remember that kindness doesn't have to be grand to make a difference.

Max’s Museum Wonders: Atari 2600

✒️ Bedtime Story Adventure

Max was helping his grandfather sweep up the museum when he noticed a faint blip-blip sound coming from the display case that stored the Atari 2600, one of the very first home video game consoles.

Max opened the glass display case. The console sat there with its wooden trim and chunky switches, looking like it had been rescued from the Stone Age of video games. Grandpa Leo always said it was “the big thing in 1977” and the first home console that made kids everywhere beg for just five more minutes.

Only tonight, the joystick in the case wasn’t still. It twitched, then it yanked upward and pulled Max into what seemed like a time warp tunnel.

Max landed with a thud on a shag-carpeted floor. The air smelled faintly of popcorn and root beer floats.

He looked around. Paneled wood walls. A lava lamp bubbling in the corner. Posters of Star Wars and Evel Knievel. Right in front of him, a big boxy TV flickering with blocky, bright colors.

On the floor sat a freckle-faced redheaded kid in a blue striped T-shirt. “Hey!” the kid said. “I’m Billy and you’re just in time. Wanna play Pong?”

Billy explained it was Saturday night, his parents were out bowling, and he had the entire den to himself. His older brother was upstairs listening to music. “Only problem,” Billy said with a grin, “is that I’ve never lost a game. Ever. No one can beat me.”

“So, do you know how to play?” asked the kid.

“Not really,” said Max. “But I am a fast learner.”

“Use the paddle controller to move your paddle up and down and block the ball,” the boy said. “It’s like table tennis.”

They started with Pong. The screen’s two paddles bouncing a square ball back and forth. Max quickly realized Billy was ridiculously good. Billy smirked.

“Nice try, but you’re about to taste defeat,” said the boy.

“Not if I—” Max shot the ball past Billy’s paddle. Beep! One point for Max.

They moved on to Space Invaders, then Asteroids, and then Breakout. Every game came with Billy’s dramatic commentary like, “You’re going down faster than my goldfish in ’73.”

After an hour, the games ended in a tie. Billy held out his hand. “You’re good, Max. Almost as good as me.”

Before Max could shake it, the TV screen started to swirl like a whirlpool.

“Whoa,” Billy said. “That’s not supposed to happen.”

The swirling pulled Max toward the screen. “Guess I have to go,” Max said, grinning. “Thanks for the game, Billy.”

“Anytime, Museum Boy!” Billy shouted as Max vanished. “And next time, I’m totally winning!”

Max stumbled back into the museum, the Atari sitting silent in its case.

Max smiled. He had a feeling his next visit might involve more candy, a rematch, and more laughs.
